Season 19
We are dedicated to supporting artists and fostering community through chamber music.
In Schools and at Juvenile Hall
Through the David Kaun Endowed Youth Outreach Program, MiM has been able to significantly expand our youth program series. From November through May, MiM presents online and in-person youth programs. In addition visiting schools in our region, we continue our partnership with Juvenile Hall of Santa Cruz County, presenting dynamic programs featuring a varied roster of renowned musicians. Over the past few years, we've seen remarkable growth in our youth programs, expanding from six in our inaugural year to 21 in 2024-25! This season, our students will learn from a diverse range of musicians who share their personal stories and showcase the transformative power of music and how it can become a cherished companion.
El Sistema
Music in May has collaborated with El Sistema Santa Cruz for over a decade, and we are excited to continue our partnership next season. This season join us for a free concert at Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History on Thursday May 28, 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. featuring the El Sistema PV Youth Orchestra.
Our film version of the David Arben program, a creation by Rebecca and her father, John Jackson, continues to captivate and inspire our students. This unique tribute, combining solo violin and powerful words, celebrates the life of Arben, a Holocaust survivor and violinist. His story is a testament to themes of tolerance, self-respect, persistence, trauma recovery, love of life, and the importance of taking responsibility for a better future.
Community Engagement
On Wednesday May 27th, we present free pop-up concerts at the legendary Bookshop Santa Cruz. From 11:00-11:30 a.m. and 12:00-12:30 p.m. enjoy distinct musical programs featuring festival artists alongside local talent. Two unique, 30-minute programs will be performed by a 19-person string orchestra, and we are looking for up to 30 musicians. Sign up by March 1st and we will notify selected players by March 9th.
